Hospital Decontamination Team with Department of Homeland Security H.E.R.T. Certification

Course Objectives

This two-day course will prepare you to apply fundamental concepts required to establish Hospital Decontamination Teams that can respond operationally to a multi-casualty incident (MCI) involving contamination resulting from natural, accidental or intentional causes. This course incorporates classroom and hands-on skills practice, as well as an immersive simulation exercise to integrate and apply your learning on Day 2

Unique to the ABIA Hospital Decontamination Team course, mutiple functional role training is presented for:

  • Traditional decon team participants
  • Hospital security personnel
  • Team members who do not wear PPE (team management roles)

Course Cost & Registration

This course is available to ABIA partner institutions at no cost all others, the fee is $330.  The course includes all materials, breakfast, lunch and snack, as well as textbooks and parking.

HERT is a two-day course with classroom materials discussed each morning and the afternoon is devoted to the “hands-on” skill stations. The final hours of day 2 will be devoted to the comprehensive simulation of all competencies learned by the students, pulling it all together.

H.E.R.T. Certification from the Department of Homeland Security obtained with successful completion of the course.
