The ARCHAngel (Akron Regional CHange Angel) Network is a regional forum for introducing investors to market-driven, technology-based investment opportunities within Northeast Ohio and particularly within the greater Akron area. The Network, made possible through the sponsorship of the University of Akron Research Foundation (UARF), brings together promising technology companies and Angel investors with a particular focus on businesses that leverage the region’s strengths in health care, information technologies, polymers and other advanced materials.
Akron Biomedical Corridor
The Akron BioMedical Corridor, located in downtown Akron and established in 2006, brings together three nationally known hospitals (Akron General Medical Center, Akron Children's Hospital and Summa Health System), the unique Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron (ABIA), the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and a world-leading biomaterial center at the University of Akron.
The Corridor also hosts the Akron Global Business Accelerator, the winner of the 2008 National Business Incubation Association Incubator Innovation Award, which provides low cost space coupled with effective, hands-on, business development support, including: business planning, networking with key collaborators and customers, access to legal and accounting services as well as access to capital. A key component of the Corridor is the Akron BioInvestments Funds, which provides access to grants and loans to appropriate companies.
Akron Global Business Accelerator
Founded in 1983 as an initiative of the City of Akron, the Akron Global Business Accelerator provides entrepreneurial support to technology-based start-ups in diverse fields, including: biomedical, energy, advanced materials, IT, instruments, controls and electronics. The Accelerator is nationally recognized for its innovation and has assisted client companies in securing $86 million in investment, generating 639 new high-paying jobs, $181 million in sales, and $104.5 million in payroll since 2008.
BioEnterprise is a business formation, recruitment, and acceleration initiative designed to grow healthcare companies and commercialize bioscience technologies. Based in Cleveland, BioEnterprise’s founders and partners are Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, Case Western Reserve University, Summa Health System and Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron.
