What We Do

As the leader of the Value-driven Engineering and U.S. Global Competitiveness effort, the ABIA is engaging senior government officials with thought leaders from industry, venture capital, academia, as well as philanthropy and non-profit sectors.  The mission is to explore the promise of Value-driven Engineering in the United States and to subsequently maintain our country’s competitiveness in a medical device development strategy that incorporates product design with targeted content based on patient need, resource optimization and efficiency.

The first formal effort in the movement was the the gathering of leaders from industry, academia and the public and private sectors for the Value-driven Engineering and U.S. Global Competitiveness Safe Haven Summit, sponsored by the Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron. The group have called for the creation of a public-private coalition as part of a roadmap for the biomedical sector and to retain the United States’ lead in medical device development and innovation.
