  • Austen BioInnovation Institute's Accountable Care Community Gains National Support to Serve Health Needs in Akron, Summit County  

    WASHINGTON, DC--The Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron (ABIA), its founding members and several community partners are the recipients of a national $500,000 award to fund the Accountable Care Community (ACC) initiative, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced today.  ACC is a collective effort aiming to create a healthier community and lessen the burden of disease in the Akron region.  The funding is part of a multimillion dollar CDC Community Transformation Program that supports public health efforts to reduce chronic diseases, promote healthier lifestyles, reduce health disparities, and control health care spending.

  • Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron Begins Work on Roadmap for First U.S. Accountable Care Community  

    AKRON, Ohio--With the intent to create a healthier community and lessen the burden of disease in Akron, the Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron (ABIA) has launched its Accountable Care Community initiative at the conference "Healthier by Design: Creating Accountable Care Communities" held today.  Led by national and regional health and wellness thought-leaders, the strategic discussion is the first step in building a plan of health promotion and disease prevention that determines how to best deliver and provide access to quality care and services for the entire community.

  • ABIA to Host "Healthier by Design: Creating Accountable Care Communities" June 22  

    The Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron's Center for Community Health Improvement will host "Healthier by Design: Creating Accountable Care Communities" to explore the issues, resources and other needs to creating a community of accountable care.  This invitation-only conference will be held from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 22, in Akron, Ohio.  Attendees encompass clinical research, primary care, public health, biostatistics, health services administration, epidemiology, informatics, education, health policy, preventive medicine and other biomedical professions.
